Luckily, there are been a few encounters late in life which brought Gordon back to Moscow, so we could renew old friendships. His honorary degree--well deserved--from the UI, brought him back, and then a special 40th Anniversary of the public stations at Idaho once again. I was an owner of the local commerical station during much of the time Gordon was working his magic in broadcasting. We share many moments from a professional standpoint. He was gifted as a mover of great events and a shaker of the establishment. He was fearless. We also shared an interest in politics, he giving many hours of advice on running a local political campaign, and me the candidate who needed all the help I could get. It was amazing to watch Gordon in action, find out the number of people he knew and how he convince them that the cause was just! He was a very special person, and I'm glad to have worked, joked and crusaded with him on some of his projects. Thanks, Gordon. You made life better here in Idaho. My deepest sympathy to Gordon's family. John Mix

Gordon hired me - fresh faced kid right out of graduate school - to work at the University of Idaho. Under his leadership we built and put on the air KUID-FM and then KUID-TV - the first public broadcasting stations in Idaho. When he left Idaho he turned over the reigns of the academic department and broadcasting stations to me - and then kept working in the background to make sure that the state and federal government treated us well! We remained friends but lost touch from time to time but later on he offered me and my wife a lot of support when I was seriously ill. We got to pay him back when he was awarded an honorary degree from the U of Idaho for his pioneering work in public broadcasting in Idaho. Gordon was a good and faithful friend and I will miss him - I will always remember talking with him a short time before he passed away - his distinctive voice - which became more Irish with age - I can hear today! The UI remembered Gordon today at it fall faculty meeting.
